CENTRE INDOOR SOCCER RULES
TEAMS
A team consists of four on court players including a goalkeeper, with unlimited additional players to be used as substitutes. Unlimited interchange applies. Teams can make substitutions only after THEIR goalkeeper takes possession of the ball, or after a goal has been scored, or at ¼ time, ½ time or ¾ time, or because of injury. Teams CAN NOT make substitutions in the last 3 minutes of the 2nd & 4th quarters.
KICK OFF
1. The referee will call both captains together for the toss to see which team kicks off first. At the start of each quarter, the kickoff will then alternate between the teams.
2. The game shall be started or re-started from a kick off from the centre point and can travel in any direction.
3. Opposition players must be behind the defence 3rd line when the referee's whistle is blown but can advance thereafter.
4. A goal may be scored direct from the kick off.
THE GOALKEEPER
1. Goalkeeper substitutions apply as per field players.
2. The goalkeepers' area is marked with a 'D' and there is an imaginary wall from the ground to the top of the net. No player can enter this area other than the goalkeeper. This includes any part of the body reaching in to the area.
3. The goalkeeper is the only player allowed in his goal area. An indirect free kick will be awarded if a field player enters the goal area.
4. The goalkeeper has five seconds to move the ball out of the goal area before an indirect free kick is awarded.
5. The goalkeeper can play outside their area but obviously not using their hands or arms.
6. If the goalkeeper has his arms outside the goal area whilst holding the ball, it is an infringement of the rules and an indirect free kick will be awarded.
7. Once the goalkeeper has passed the ball out of his area, there must be at least a touch by 2 different players before the ball can be passed back and the goalkeeper can then pick up the ball. The ball can be passed back immediately from a player but the goalkeeper must take the ball outside the area and not touch the ball by hand or arm.
SCORING
1. A goal is scored when the referee determines the whole of the ball has passed over the goal line through the face of the goal.
2. Any field player may score from any field position as long as the goal area rules are not infringed. Goalkeepers are permitted to score.
FREE KICKS
1. ALL FREE KICKS ARE INDIRECT OTHER THAN A PENALTY. All free kicks must be taken within 5 seconds. Indirect free kicks will be awarded for:
*charging or attempting a tackle from behind, players must tackle from in front of 180 degrees of the player with the ball*
*slide tackles or tackling whilst on the ground*
*high feet, only if considered dangerous by the referee*
*pinning a player against the net. The player in possession must be allowed room to move in one direction only of at least 1 metre*
*any field player entering either goal area*
*holding the net to intentionally hinder an opposing player either in attack or defence*
*net abuse*
2. Opposition players must be at least two metres from the ball on all free kicks
3. Free kicks may not be taken within two metres of the oppositions goal area
4. The referee will play on if he determines the infringed team has advantage
5. In the event of a penalty, the attacking player must have one foot grounded next to the ball with the other foot to strike the ball. The penalty must be taken on the referee's whistle and from the top of the 'D'. The goalkeeper must have both feet placed on the goal line. Once the referee has blown the whistle, the goalkeeper can advance keeping in mind that he/she can not have any part of their arms or hands make contact with the ball outside of the goalkeepers area.
FIELD PLAYERS
1. If the referee calls timeout for an injury or a booking, the game can be restarted by a free kick or a dropped ball.
2. If the ball touches the referee and interferes with play, the referee will effect a dropped ball. If in the opinion of the referee there is no effect on the game, play will continue. Players must play the referee's whistle.
3. In a dropped ball situation, the ball must touch the ground before being played at. If a player touches the ball before it hits the ground, there will be an indirect free kick awarded to the opposing team.
NET ABUSE
This is defined by any player jumping on and off the net, propelling themselves from the net, or holding on to the net to gain advantage. An indirect free kick 1 metre from the net will result to the opposition.
HANDBALL
When the ball comes in to contact with part of a players' hand or arm from the shoulder down will be considered a hand ball. If a player moves his/her hands or arm in to the path of the ball for protection and the referee deems it as protection, a professional foul will not be called. If a professional foul is committed, a yellow card will result with an indirect free kick from the spot where the infringement occurred. Check MISCONDUCT & BEHAVIOUR if previous cards and fouls have occurred.
If a deliberate hand ball occurs by the last line of defence, a penalty will be awarded and the offender given a BLUE card. The last line of defence is classed as the only defending player between the attacking player and the goal.
